IT security: urgent and essential for your company

“Tough day for us at Twitter. We all feel terrible this happened”. These were the words of Jack Dorse, CEO of the social network, after being victim of one of the worst hacking.

Only a month ago, several accounts of personalities like Bill Gates and Barack Obama were stolen with the aim of achieving a cyber fraud.

Cases like Twitter, and so many others that have been increased with the pandemic and the exponential use of the Internet, are clear examples of the vulnerability that companies are exposed to in relation to their systems.

This happens, in part, because cybercriminals have more resources and technologies, but fundamentally, because IT security is still seen as an unnecessary investment; even today where data are the most valuable asset of companies.

Furthermore, there is a myth that only big companies are being attacked. However, any business can be a victim of hacking: automated attacks simply recognize which system is vulnerable, regardless of who owns it or what it does.

At the same time, we are experiencing a time where the dependence on technology is increasing, so it is logical to protect it to avoid these serious damages.
So, why invest in an IT security strategy?

Save time and money
Although at the beginning, investing in security may seem expensive, when a system has been violated and is damaged, solving the flaw is prolonged and the damages may be greater. Thus, it is convenient to establish a custom-designed security system, where preventive maintenance costs will always be more profitable.

Avoid data leakage
Remember that passwords are not totally secure. To protect the information, it is necessary to have a strategy created by specialists, where more complex barriers are established to stop cybercriminals.

Protect yourself from information theft
The sale of corporate information is one of the most recurrent and costly cybercrimes. This situation is now more complex with the pandemic and remote work, as employees are manipulating confidential information on their computers. For this reason, the protection of information by companies is urgent in order to avoid collateral damage.

Build a culture of security: implementing security measures and taking the issue seriously will foster a sense of collaboration among all. It is vital to spread a message, in addition to computer protection, that everyone is responsible for taking care of the information in the company.

Finally, keep in mind that investment in security is the result of a risk analysis that is directly proportional to the value of your information.

To decide how much to invest, evaluate the impact of what would happen if the systems stop working for a certain time (one hour, one week, several weeks). This will help you to take a real dimension of your risks and invest in a strategy tailored to you.
